WASHINGTON DC -- Afghans For A Better Tomorrow is issuing the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s parole termination notices and the end of temporary protections for Afghans:

“Our organization has been overwhelmed with weeping calls and anxious pleas from Afghans who have sought safety and asylum in the United States. The Trump administration has decided to voraciously attack refugee and immigrant communities over these past few months, including our own.

While the temporary protections offered to Afghans fell short of the promises America made, they were still measures that were life-saving. It allowed Afghans to build a new haven for themselves and their families.

Now, Afghans face a set of conditions that make it impossible to return: half the country is starving, women’s rights are nonexistent, and a ruthless regime targets anyone who opposes it. It’s America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan that created the current conditions in Afghanistan today. Now it wishes to discard the direct human consequences of its own actions.”

AFGHANS FOR A BETTER TOMORROW CONDEMNS STRIPPING OF VITAL PROTECTIONS FOR AFGHAN REFUGEES

New York City, NY -- The Trump administration’s decision to revoke deportation protections for Afghans fleeing danger on the very same day it extended a welcome to White Afrikaners as purported refugees illustrates the stark racial bias and cruelty driving its immigration policy. Trump is preparing for a mass detention and deportation campaign targeting immigrants, including Afghans who risked their lives supporting the U.S. over the past two decades, in a sweeping act of cruelty and betrayal.

Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Noem’s assertions that Afghanistan is safe could not be further from the truth. Almost 25 million people are suffering from a deepening humanitarian crisis as the Taliban is brutally repressing the rights of girls, women, and other vulnerable ethnic and religious groups.

It’s America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan and the Doha accord negotiated during the first Trump administration that created the conditions in Afghanistan today. Now it wishes to discard the direct human consequences of its own actions.”
